Whenever we ask people, “how do they want to be remembered, most of them will reply with something really big, something really great in the eyes of society. Most of us want to become great scientist, great inventor, successful entrepreneur, celebrity, popular sportsperson, etc so that people can remember us.
Earlier in my childhood, I too wanted to be something big like the Prime minister( I know it’s weird). But as I grew up, I found it increasingly difficult to find a home in these big, flashy things. Now, in my early twenties, I don’t want to be remembered as someone who was super-rich, super talented, or the extraordinary person who comes into this earth only once in ages.( I guess everyone’s definition of success change as they grew up.)
First of all, not all of us will be remembered. Even the people who did the greatest of great things in the past, are now forgotten by their own people. People don’t even remember their name or their glory. However great you’ll be, you’ll only be remembered for some time or so. In case, you turn out to be a great scientist, then you’ll be remembered in classrooms for the sake of your invention and nothing more.
The point here is that there’s no point in banging your head over how you should be remembered for ages to come. In fact, we should not bother about it at all. But if you want to, so For being remembered, you don’t need to do great things, you just have to do the smallest of things in the best possible way you can.
Like in my case, I want to be remembered(of course for some time and in a small circle of people) as someone who listens to them without interrupting and without imposing her opinions and biases on the other person. I want to be remembered as a person who understands them without making fun of their situation. I want to be remembered as someone who cares, who’s compassionate to others, who is not judgemental towards everything. I want to be remembered for my aura, for my kindness, for the respect I give to others, and for the smiles I spread.
Ps: ( I’m working on many of these things. I certainly make mistakes and might have hurt someone. Sometimes, I mightn’t have been kind to someone. But I’m constantly trying to improve myself)
Now tell me, how do you want to be remembered?
